February 2008 - ANML-RESQ Newsletter Welcome to the February edition of the ANML-RESQ Newsletter. If you haven't read my recent on Muffi, or read the first page of our web site - we have an urgent request for Muffi. This little girl is in dire need of a foster or forever home by Friday February 22nd or she will be going into a high-risk shelter where she will most likely be PTS. I am putting an all-call out to anyone who can help, or who can tell a friend who maybe willing to save Muffi.
Muffi is a gorgeous girl with plenty of love to offer, so if you or someone you know can help, please contact us immediately at anmlresq@hotmail.com or phone 416-256-1364 or check the web site to apply on-line. We have only one week to find her a foster or forever home. We are working in conjunction with Renee Robins of the Owen Sound Animal Shelter to get another Bite Prevention Seminar together. We hope to have the Seminar on the 3rd Saturday in May at the Caledon Community Centre in Caledon. More information and date confirmation to come. Adoption of the Month
This dynamic duo need a foster or forever home. These gorgeous, big boys are neutered males. They may look very different but in fact, they are brothers. Temper (top) and Tantrum (bottom) were surrendered to a shelter by an owner who could no longer care for them. Both are completely house trained and like to keep their pens clean. They know a few basic manners such as sit, give paw and are very treat and tennis ball motivated. They love people's attention but are not socialized with other dogs or cats. They have never been exposed to children, so an adult only home is a must for these boys. We know it will be impossible to find them a forever home together, but we are asking if anyone can help one of these boys to please fill out our online application (also located on our front page). ANML-RESQ wants to do a calendar for 2008. What do you say ... do you have a great picture of your pet? Do you want to see your pet on a calendar? Don't be shy ... get your pictures together and decide which one is the best (or two) and send to anmlresq@hotmail.com for our 2008 Calendar. Pictures will be accepted until September 30th. This Christmas calendar will showcase the great pets we have and also help to fundraise for a great cause. Please send your photos in their largest format (.jpg, .png, or .gif) - all pictures become the property of ANML-RESQ. Did you see the great new items up for sale at ANML-RESQ Cafepress? | These
are frozen and can be made softer or harder depending on how good the
dog is at "excavating" the Kong. The frozen recipes can also
be put into ice cube trays or other containers When filling Kongs, you'll need to plug up the smaller hole if the filling is liquidy, so it doesn't fall out. You can also plug the larger hole to make it harder for the dog to get the filling out. Some things you can use to plug the holes: a grape or piece of another type of fruit, cheese, dog treats, peanut butter, veggies, or anything else that will fit. You can also add dog biscuits, fruit, or veggies (or whatever your dog likes) to the Kong along with one of the recipes below, to make layers or mix in. Peanutty Pupcicles 1 ripe banana 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup wheat germ 1/4 cup chopped peanuts Mash bananas and peanut butter, stir in wheat germ. Chill 1 hour. Place in Kong, store in refrigerator or freezer. |

Tejas
Nicole Joncas from Tejas Rescue, has been working for years to have this particular puppy mill shut down. Nicole has my deepest respect as I know how hard this fight has been for her. She has never given up and you can tell she is very driven and determined to end the misery of these innocent animals. I have placed Nicole's open letter here for you to read and spread the word for these innocent animals who can't speak for themselves - God bless you Nicole! To read her open letter ...>
Ask Sassy ~ Ask Sassy a question and she will give you her answer! Dear Sassy:Can you tell me what a pit bull is? And why Ontario'its put up with the 2005 BSL ban when in Calgary they have a law in place where the owner is fined and the breed is not held responsible. And their bite rates have dropped dramatically in that City. Thanks, Concerned in Grey Bruce Dear Concerned in Grey Bruce:Well, speaking from someone who truly knows (they say I'm a pitbull) ... puh whadda loada bull - I'm a MUTT and proud of it! In my humble opinion the term "pit bull" is a collective term for dogs that are similar in type/shape to the old pit and bull terriers that were used to bait bulls a couple of hundred years ago (maybe more). Pit bull type dogs have been exploited by man for a long long time - not only for fighting but for ego enhancement, etc. Let's face it they are an extremely handsome type of dog. Look at the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier - the only two breed types recognized by the CKC included in the ban - the physique is to die for. Anyway, our Ontario Liberal Government decided out of the blue to ramrod the quickest piece of legislation known to man through the system to ban these wonderful breeds. The Government AKA Michael Bryant paid lip service to the legislative process and despite many experts advice and went ahead with Breed Specific Legislation. People from all over the world tried to convince Ontario Government that BSL is not the way to go and tried to get them to look at the Calgary experience to no avail. They were bound and determined to push this bill through and they did. As usual the Liberals have no idea, nor do they care, how their legislation is implemented so Municipalities were left to figure out how to pay for and administer this bylaw. Hmm - let's see...what's easier let the dog pay the price and the owners walk. Of course, much less paperwork, less money spent going to court, etc. But why? There must be some underlying reason why the Liberals were out to get pit bulls ---- they really hadn't caused an outrageous amount of trouble. When you have 2 or 3 murders in one city (Toronto) every week why mess around with dogs. There definitely is a reason but the only one I can come up with is that because pit bulls are pretty friendly on the whole, they are easily trained, they look pretty cool, they can look pretty scary at times and they are the breed of choice for many criminal minded people. Maybe the law was passed so that officials could enter a premises without warrant if they suspected criminal activity. Or, maybe it was because Michael Bryant was made to look the fool when he couldn't identify a pit bull in a photo line-up -- that could have really ticked him off! Who knows. February Funny
